Carbon Training International in the USA
Carbon Training International (CTI), Australia’s first accredited workplace carbon management qualification provider, has announced the export of its Australian developed carbon management courses to the University of California, Los Angeles.
The course in carbon management developed by CTI will be delivered through UCLA Extension, a leading provider of business education in California.
UCLA has recognised the value inclusion of a course in carbon emissions management in its Global Sustainability Certificate will bring - especially as the course delivers applied training specific to the needs of business and the workplace.
The UCLA Extension Faculty recognised the need to provide training in the discipline of carbon management and regard the CTI course as a turn-key course that could be quickly deployed and integrated into the UCLA Global Sustainability Certificate which is delivered to both domestic and international students.
CTI has been working with UCLA since 2010 and the first course will be delivered in January 2012.
The unique carbon management course (there is no other in the USA) will assist business and communities adapt to the cap-and-trade regulation that comes into effect in 2013 aiming to reduce California’s CO2 emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, 15% below business as usual.
Delivery of the carbon management training in California represents a significant market opportunity for CTI; the Californian economy and population are 50% larger than for the whole of Australia.
The UCLA initiative is an example of how innovation and market leadership is providing export opportunities for Australian business, delivering new skills and capabilities to both developed and emerging markets.
Education and skills in carbon management is essential to support organisational transition to energy efficiency and the low carbon economy and to capture new business opportunities whilst avoiding unnecessary risks.
