![]() "The Ribbon Supply is a major distributor of cash register rolls throughout Australia. We sell both local and imported paper products. The paper industry in Australia is a major contributor to greenhouse emissions throughout the entire life cycle of the product. The challenges confronting the industry in relation to the proposed carbon emissions trading scheme will require my company’s supply chain to introduce significant changes to their current business practices. As part of the company’s risk management strategy, the decision to train all staff to a level of competence in the issues surrounding the carbon emissions trading scheme and its likely impact on our industry was taken in 2008. The proposed courses offered by Carbon Training International, based on the Australian Quality Training Framework, met our needs by offering two courses at two levels that allowed all staff the opportunity of accessing skills at levels appropriate to their needs. The proposed Certificate 3 course was undertaken by the company’s NSW Sales Manager. This course promoted skills which has allowed for the management strategies to be communicated more effectively throughout the organisation. CTI’s instructors were responsive to all the participants needs, demonstrating a deep knowledge of the subject areas. The ability to develop objectives and strategies for the reduction of carbon emissions within the company’s head office and warehouse are directly attributable to the units covered in the proposed Certificate 3 course. It has become apparent that every organisation needs to have a trained carbon management team- led by a Carbon Manager- who will be able to implement the changes, and help develop the risk management plan that must follow as a response to the issues surrounding carbon emissions. The proposed Certificate 4 course was undertaken by the company’s Managing Director. This course has been integral in assisting the company in developing a Carbon Management Reduction Plan which forms the basis for our risk management. Issues such as carbon audits, carbon offsets and carbon liability are significant in our future risk strategies. We have found a widespread lack of leadership and understanding in our supply chain on these issues. CTI’s training program represented excellent value for money and I have no hesitation in recommending CTI as a provider of training and coaching services in the climate change, carbon and green- skills workspaces." |
